The Prevalence Of Rooms To Share For Generation Rent
You may be able to find rooms to share in large cities and towns - migrant workers, students and people working on short term contracts often agree or decide to find rooms to share in order to save money whilst they are working or studying.
Tourists and travelers also often look for rooms to share when they are visiting new places for a few weeks and do not want to spend most of their budget upon accommodation. You can find rooms to share in most major towns and cities, they could be advertised by people who own large houses and want to generate an income or by landlords who recognize that there is a need for affordable accommodation amongst these groups.
Couples are another group of people who prefer to share rooms in a house hold not only because its cheaper but also because they may wish to live together whilst saving up to buy a place or because they wish to cut down on their expense or they may simply be unable to afford a bigger place or apartment of their own.
Gay couples will however find it more difficult to find rooms to share as peoples attitude no matter how complacent has not changed as much as we are been made to believe.
In London and other major cities, room shares are usually hostels but it is quite feasible to find a room share in a normal household that is a house share if you are upfront and inform the landlord that you and your partner are going to be sharing a room.
A lot of landlords capitalize on this need and deliberately provide or convert their property into hostels where there is a lot of space or otherwise charge more if two people share a room primarily because the rooms are usually bigger and the bills generated by the particular room is usually higher with a lot of them advertising on websites and in the news papers.
When looking for rooms to share make sure that you specify or find out exactly who you would be sharing with or who you wish to share with.
Everyone should take extra care to ensure that they will be safe and feel secure in the property, but you must also accept that you may end up with a room mate who snores or gets up in the middle of the night and disturbs your sleep.
You must also be confident that your possessions will be safe and not disappear overnight as this may happen in a youth hostel.
Access to a kitchen area and a bathroom will also obviously be essential but do not expect brand new designer facilities in this type of accommodation.
You are much more likely to have a basic bed, wardrobe, space to store your case and basic cooking facilities including saucepans, cups, cutlery, plates and bowls. You may not have access to an oven, it may be that the only provision is a hob to heat up food in a saucepan.
Nevertheless rooms to share have traditionally been an affordable way for people to travel to new places or stay in strange countries at an affordable and reasonable rate.
Some people have great memories of meeting new people, sharing food and nights out in a new place on limited funds whilst sharing accommodation.
Rooms to share are a great way to travel, save money or simply find a place to stay but please bear in mind your personal safety at all times.
